Dearborn is AFMI’s (Arab Film & Media Institute) first fiscally sponsored project: a half-hour sci-fi dramedy pilot starring Inji El Gammal (as seen on Ramy) and Alia Abed. Expelled from college, Haifa, a young rebellious woman, returns to her close-knit Arab community in Dearborn, Michigan, determined to restore her reputation and regain her mother’s trust. However, her plans spiral when she becomes entangled in an alien conspiracy initiated by a quirky neighbor.

Dearborn premiered at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) 2025, where it was Jury-Nominated for Best Episodic Project and won the Audience Award. The pilot has since been selected for the Independent Pilot: Drama Competition at SeriesFest in Denver—North America’s leading festival dedicated to episodic storytelling. Further expanding its festival run, Dearborn has screened at NewFilmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) as part of the InFocus: Counter-Ageism program, as well as the Arab Film Festival, underscoring its cross-cultural resonance and industry recognition.
